The Anambra State Police command has said that there is nothing like unknown gunmen anymore, stressing that what prevails in the state are unrepentant criminals terrorizing innocent people.
The police statement came on the heels of a raid on a camp occupied by hoodlums at Agulezechukwu in Aguata local government area of the state.
"Anambra people have agreed with the Police and security agencies that there is nothing like unknown gunmen. These persons terrorizing the State are unrepentant criminals who have refused to change their ways.
Security operatives are happy that Anambra people have shown more resolve and commitment by working with the Police and other security agencies to fish out the bad eggs and deny the criminals the space to wreck more havoc in the state", the police command said.
Meanwhile, the command said it has improved surveillance and patrols to deter crime and maintain order in the state.
In a joint operation comprising the Police, Department of State Service, Army, Navy, Civil Defence and Anambra State Vigilante members, an identified criminal camp at Agulezechukwu was raided and one suspected armed hoodlum was killed.
The operatives also recovered one ash - coloured Toyota Sienna with Reg No: EKY 03 FF, one unregistered white Mazda Hilux, one motorcycle, some household/kitchen items, which include: pots, gallons, groceries, some sleeping mattresses, mechanical tools, clothes and other incriminating items.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Joint Security Force overran the camp after seven hours of gun battle with the armed hoodlums.
He said that the operatives are still combing the area for possible arrest of other fleeing suspects because of a lot of fresh blood stains seen in the area.
