THE authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have reinstated Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution with immediate effect.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations/Protocol Officer of the university, Njelita Louis.
Ikechebelu was removed as the Acting Vice Chancellor when the governing council of the university was constituted and in his place, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi was named as the Acting VC. It was Arinze-Umobi that handed over to Odoh when he was appointed VC by the governing council.
The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani- Gwarzo had in a letter addressed to Ikechebelu, said the reinstatement was sequel to the nullification of the appointment of Odoh as the 7 substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, which he described as illegal
The letter directed Ikechebelu to take charge of the administration of the university, informing him that any matter that requires the approval of the governing council should be forwarded to the Minister for consideration and approval, pending the reconstitution of another governing council.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had, in nullifying the appointment of Professor Odoh, dissolved the governing council of the university headed by Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe. Other governing council members removed were Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, Amioleran Osahon and Retd General Funsho Oyeneyin.
Additionally, Mr Victor Modebelu has been appointed Acting Registrar, following the nullification of Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike’s appointment as the substantive Registrar.
