Authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka have expelled the female student of the institution, Miss Precious Chiamaka Goddy-Mbakwe who was captured in a viral video fighting a lecturer for disrupting her Tik Tok video.
Her action went viral in the social media with condemnation coming from various places. Following the incident, UNIZIK management promised to set up a committee to look into the incident.
In a letter signed by the Registrar of the university, Mr Victor Modebelu and addressed to the student, the institution directed the student to vacate the school immediately.
The letter, with the title, 'Expulsion from Nnamdi Azikiwe University reads: "The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theater and Film Studies which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
"Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee's recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The expulsion takes immediate effect. You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession."
It was gathered that the expulsion followed information provided by lecturers in her department, which showed that Miss Goddy- Mbakwe had never been a serious student.
One of her lecturers, ( names withheld) said: "She acts like non-academic student. She is my student. She is unruly. She hardly comes to class.
"Surprisingly, she was in my class that morning just before the incident. I seized her phone during the lecture, because against the rule that all phones should be off during the class, hers was on and she was surfing.
Of course, she failed all the questions I asked her. She followed me downstairs after the lecture and made excuses as to why her phone was on, after which I gave it back to her.
Between five and ten minutes later, this incident happened".
The university's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Louis Njelita, also confirmed the expulsion.
His statement read: "The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, wishes to update the public on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings regarding the recent incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies.
The actors involved were given a fair hearing by the Students Disciplinary Committee. After a thorough review by the Committee (SDC), the act committed by Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, a 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies, was deemed a gross misconduct and a violation of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
"Based on the Committee's findings and recommendations, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the immediate expulsion of Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka from Nnamdi
Azikiwe University, Awka.
She is required to vacate the University premises immediately and return all University property in her possession.
