Presidential aspirant of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Mr Peter Obi, has said that government needs to be decisive against terrorists to protect schools and the society.

Obi spoke during a visit to the Practicing Nursery and Primary School, Agulu, Anambra State where he donated a cheque of N10 million for the rebuilding of the school's main block gutted by fire in December 2024.

He said he is particular about enhancing the quality of education in Nigeria because, according to him, the quality of education in a country determines its level of development.

He said: "It's very worrisome that terrorists are attacking schools and kidnapping pupils and teachers. We are already suffering from having the highest number of out of school children in the world and now the little we are trying to do is being distorted by insecurity.

We need to do whatever we can as a country to secure our schools and ensure that our children are in school. That is the only way we can be part of the competitive world whereby our children will have the required skills.to build our nation.

We do not only need to secure our schools from insecurity, but also the society. I have been in government before and we knew what we did to ensure safety in Anambra. It needs decisiveness and will power of the people in government to defeat them."

On the Practicing School, which was founded in 1922, Obi said: "Icame here when the main building of the school got burnt and I promised to assist in rebuilding it to something that is more modern. It is my belief that as a nation, we must invest in education.

" I have said it repeatedly that the more a society is educated, the more developed it is. If you remove education, there is nothing else to offer.

To have a successful nation, we must build human capital and capacity. I therefore urge everyone, not just government, to see education as an investment".
