Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has said that his administration is planning to establish 100 hectares of land fun city as part of his smart city vision for the state.
Soludo announced the plan during the formal opening of the multi million naira Solution Fun City he built in the heart of Awka.
Excited at the level of acceptance of the leisure center, the governor said that a mega city park is also in the offing, adding that tourism is a major economic boost.
He said: "Our people destroyed all leisure facilities and built markets and skyscrapers. We're going to revert that. This fun city is just a tip of the iceberg because a mega fun city that will take up to 100 hectares of land is in the pipeline so that the world will be coming to Anambra.
But even as little as this one is at the middle of the city, it is the only leisure park that has a country club where people of all ages converge to come and have fun".
According to him, the whole idea is to create one -stop shop center for fun, adding that the vision for the project was intentional.
"For this fun festival, most of the hotels in Awka were fully booked as people flew in from within and outside the country to come and be part of it.
The whole idea is to create a destination of choice and this is part of our bigger plan to make Anambra a preferred destination to invest, to work, to relax and enjoy.
This kind of gathering has never happened in Anambra where over 15,000 fun seekers gather to enjoy themselves. Our youths are hungry and they need to let off..
The mega city park we are planning for Awka will be like no other. What is standard in every developed city is what we are going to have here in Anambra", he said.
Many artists, including musicians and comedians performed during the Awka festival, with people from all parts of the state closing their businesses to be part of it.
