Soludo bans school graduation ceremonies in Anambra

Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has placed an indefinite ban on graduation ceremonies in all schools in Anambra State.

The state Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, said the essence of the ban is to reduce financial burden on parents.

Government said yesterday that following inquiries and concerns from the public, the state government decided to give further clarification on the issue.

According to the Commissioner, the scope of ban covers all kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools in whatever guise, including passing out, cross over in all public and private schools.

He, however, said that graduation from Senior Secondary School (SS3) is exempted. "Graduation ceremonies for students exiting Senior Secondary School is optional and where carried out, must be conducted without any form of levy or financial demand on students and parents", the Commissioner said.

He warned that any school management found to violate the directive will face serious sanctions, which, he stated, may include the closure of such a school.
