The governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, have extended season’s greetings and warm congratulations to Christians in Anambra State and across Nigeria on the celebration of Easter.
Soludo, in his message, commended Christians for their prayers and consistent devotion to the virtues of sacrifice, solemnity, humility, and spiritual revival exhibited during the Lent.
He also lauded the inspiring significance of Easter’s lessons in selflessness, modesty, hope, renewal and harmony as personified by Jesus Christ and urged Christians to take advantage of the season to reinforce the ideals of personal sacrifice for mutual tolerance and peaceful co-existence in the country.
He emphasized that Easter’s lessons perfectly align with his administration’s vision for Anambra State as a peaceful, livable and progressive society where government policies promote social harmony, economic opportunity, and peace of mind for all.
The governor said that as Christ triumphed over death, there will also be a new triumphant Nigeria where the noble dreams of her leaders and citizens will be realized for a stronger and better nation.
In his message, Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze noted that without resurrection of Jesus Christ, the faith of Christians would have been in vain.
He said that through the resurrection of Jesus Christ which is commemorated in Easter, Christians have a new living power to overcome trials and temptations, stressing that Easter is the season that conveys the highest joy of salvation.
He reminded Christians that the true meaning of Easter is about the love Jesus Christ has for mankind, adding that love drives away wickedness, hatred and unrighteousness.
Udeze enjoined Christians to embrace all the lessons of Easter and triumph over evil and vices, while urging them to promote harmony in their communities and pray for peaceful coexistence.
He also prayed that the blessings and lessons of Easter be spread in the state and "move us to be better people and comfort those who suffer in mind or body."
