He said the university is making history, being the first in the ancient history of Onitsha, advising that education must be backed by values and good morals
"Our institution is the one that teaches its students to be confident in themselves, and discipline remains indispensable for any meaningful progress.
Shanahan started with 19 programmes in October 2024 and we are adding additional five new courses, namely, Medicine, English language, Law, Anatomy and Physiology," the Vice Chancellor said
The Proprietor and Chancellor of the University, Archbishop Valerian Okeke, charged the students to Imbibe the culture of excellence while the sky Will be their limit.
The Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, in his speech, charged the students of the University, to shun all vices and be the leaders the country craves for.
He said the most challenging thing in Nigeria is leadership, urging the students to live the life of the person whose name is given to the school, Bishop Shanahan
Achebe, said the Archbishop has made it clear that the University is the first and will be the best in Anambra, Nigeria and indeed, the entire sub Saharan Africa.
"I thought I would never see a University in Onitsha. We're living the legacy of Shanahan who brought education to us. You, the students, are the hope of Nigeria.
You should brace up in making the country your parents and the church proud. There's no alternative to moral uprightness. Yesterday is gone, today is here and tomorrow will come. Trust in God who is our benefactor", Igwe Achebe said.
The Royal Father observed that the most challenging thing in Nigeria is shortage of good leadership, while charging the students to fill the gap of that shortage of leadership.
