Police begin investigation into the death of 80- year old Igweship aspirant in Anambra

The Anambra State Police command says it has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an 80- year old Igweship aspirant in Nkpor, Idemili North local government area, late Chief Paul Onwualu.

Wife of the deceased, Mrs. Anthonia Onwualu had alleged that her husband was beaten to coma by the police , taken away and died before getting to the hospital.

According to her, the police, in the company of some persons opposed to her husband’s Igweship aspiration, had stormed their residence and beat him into a coma before whisking him away.

The policemen, who came from the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Abuja, were said to be heading to Ogidi Police Station to detain him, only for the man to die on the way.

In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga assured that the matter is being handled with the seriousness it deserved to ascertain the facts surrounding the unfortunate incident.

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has urged residents to remain calm and allow the ongoing investigation to run its course and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and the protection of lives and property.
