Police arrest two suspected kidnappers, launch manhunt for two others in Anambra

The Anambra State Police command has said that two persons suspected to be kidnappers and armed robbers are being detained in connection with the recent kidnap incident in the state.


The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the command has launched manhunt for two others connected with the kidnapping.


According to the PPRO, the suspects include Maduabuchukwu, Ikechukwu Okafor age 30 years and Nweze Chijindu aged 38 years, who are natives of Abagana in Njikoka local government area, while Supuluchukwu Nweze and Sunday Nwakanze aged 30 years are presently at large.


The police said it recovered one pump action, the victim’s vehicle, rope, horsewhip and other incriminating items from the suspects.


A statement by the PPRO read: "Following the testimony of a rescued kidnap victim on 22/11/2024 near Abagana Girls Secondary School, the joint security forces comprising of Police and Anambra Vigilante, busted a shrine of a native doctor at Uru village, Abagana, arrested two suspects and launched a manhunt on two others.


Preliminary investigations reveal that the victim was lured to the location by a phone call allegedly initiated by Sunday Nwakanze.


The victim was abducted at gunpoint, dispossessed of valuables, and transported to a shrine where he was restrained using ropes and had his mouth sealed.


The two suspects confessed to the crime and are currently assisting the Police with information for possible arrest of other gang members".


Ikenga assured that the command remains committed towards ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Anambra State.
