The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has concluded plans to partner with the 8,000 - member strong Anambra -based Ultimate Business Women And Farmers Association Of Nigeria' UBWFAN on the fight against drug abuse at the grassroots level.

Speaking during the presentation of an award of excellence by the group in Awka, the state Commander of the NDLEA, Onyishi Daniel Ogbonna, said that due to the handling of the enforcement, consumers and addicts do not have easy access to the drug any longer.

He said: "We are going hard on them and that is why the cost of methamphetamine has risen to N16,500 as against the cost of N3,500 before the enforcement.

The Command is impressed with this initiative of holding a convention by the women group with a theme "Role of Mothers in Nation's Security" because the pressure is on the mothers ,the men are not always there

The women take care of the children and if everything goes wrong the women would take the blame for whatever the children do and I urge you all to continue in that stade

On our own part the Command would be partnering with you women and especially the Ultimate Business Women And Farmers Association Of Nigeria' to fight against the issue of drug abuse and peddling because what we teach the women goes down to the children for the counseling of our children"

With this organization working with us , it would surely have great multiplayer effects on the training of our children for the good of the society."

In her speech, the President of the Ultimate Business Women And Farmers Association Of Nigeria, Nkiru Nwagbo, noted that the award was in appreciation of the Command's doggedness towards fight against drug abuse and peddling which, according to her, nearly consumed the state.

She observed that drug is the major contributor to crime and all other social vices. She, however, observed that drug abuse has reduced to the minimal level, which is why the level of insecurity in the state has reduced.

She congratulated the Commander on the fight against drug peddling and illicit consumption, noting that all the service commanders in the state are working in tandem with the state government to sustain the fight insecurity in the state.
