The kidnapped retired Anglican Archbishop on the Niger and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese , Most Rev. Godwin Okpala, has been freed two weeks after nearly one month of being held in the bush. Archbishop Okpala was set free alongside his driver who was kidnapped with him.

Archbishop Okpala confirmed his freedom in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday morning. He simply wrote: “Praise the Lord!”

Recall that Okpala and his driver went missing on his way to Umuchu, Aguata local government area of Anambra State for a burial ceremony.

It could not be ascertained at press time if ransom was paid before their release, but worshippers in various churches in Anambra State were in celebration mood when the information filtered into the state.
