The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in last year's Anambra election, Mr John Nwosu has said that investing in children is an investment in a stronger, safer and more prosperous future.
In a message to commemorate the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, Nwosu described children as the pride of today and the leaders of tomorrow.
According to him, Children’s Day is not merely a day of celebration, but a moment of reflection on the collective duty to protect, nurture, educate, and inspire every child to achieve his or her fullest potential.
Urging children to always remember that they are unique, gifted, and full of limitless possibilities, he told them never to allow their background, circumstances, or present challenges to define their future.
He said: "I encourage you to take your education seriously, develop good character, respect your parents and teachers, and uphold the values of discipline, honesty, kindness, and hard work.
The future belongs to young people who are prepared, focused, creative, and determined to make positive impact in society", Nwosu said.
"We are living in an era driven by knowledge, science, technology, and innovation. I therefore urge you to embrace learning, acquire digital and creative skills, read widely, ask questions, and use technology positively and responsibly. Nigeria and Africa need a generation of young minds that can compete globally, solve problems, and contribute meaningfully to national development."
He urged leaders, parents and stakeholders to continue to create an environment where children can grow in peace, safety, love, and opportunity, adding that very child deserves access to quality education, good healthcare, moral guidance, protection from abuse, and equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of social status, religion, or location.
"On this important occasion, I respectfully call on governments at all levels to place greater priority on the welfare and future of Nigerian children through increased investment in education, modern learning facilities, digital technology, healthcare services, child protection policies, and youth development programmes.
Our children deserve safe schools, qualified teachers, functional libraries, access to technology, and opportunities that will prepare them to thrive in the modern global economy.
To our dear children, continue to dream big and believe in yourselves. Stay away from violence, crime, drugs, cultism, and every negative influence that may destroy your future. Let your lives be guided by faith, integrity, compassion, excellence, and love for humanity", he said.
