Labour Party, LP, governorship aspirant for the November 2025 election in Anambra State, Mr. John Nwosu has observed that there was a drastic drop of returnees for the 2024 Christmas celebration in the state due to rising cases of insecurity.
In a statement in Awka, Nwosu said there is unabating violence, rampant killings and kidnappings in various parts of the state, which, he stated, had proved him right concerning what he called the stark failure of Governor Soludo's administration to meet its statutory responsibility to protect citizens of Anambra State.
According to him, both indigenes, non-indigenes know that insecurity is the major problem in the state.
He said: "Statistics indicate a drastic drop in the number of those returning to Anambra for the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year Festivities.
Incidentally, for some inexplicable reasons, the state government said it had mapped out ameliorative measures for tackling insecurity in the state which it would put in place beginning in January 2025. This seems to be a case of putting the cart before the horse.
Clearly, the Soludo administration has failed in articulating what ought to be priorities for Ndi Anambra. Such a faulty disposition is unacceptable on every count.
It is most embarrassing that an eminent Anambra prelate is still missing and on Christmas Eve, an incumbent member of the Anambra State Assembly representing Onitsha North was kidnapped.
Certainly, Anambra people cannot afford to continue supporting a governor who schedules security interventions as if he is scheduling a social appointment. State Security is a 24/7 project anchored on a firm commitment and allocation of the required resources, personnel, equipments and materials."
He argued that the present Anambra State government cannot be allowed to mortgage the security of the state and people.
"We cannot be on exile from our homeland. Change is needed and we urge everyone to be part of this needed and urgent change."
