The recent escape of two persons suspected to be connected with the killing of a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Justice Azuka has continued to draw condemnation, with a human rights activist, Comrade Osita Obi saying that the state Police command has a lot of questions to answer.
The two suspects allegedly escaped while being led to another suspect, who kept the operational vehicles of the kidnap syndicate for them.
According to Comrade Obi, investigation carried out by him showed that the suspects escaped on February 8, two days before the new Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, assumed duty.
Obi said: "It was a well planned deal to give the suspects the opportunity to escape. The former CP should be probed immediately. He should not be rewarded for his incompetence and compromise in Anambra with bigger duties in Abuja. He should not be allowed to remain in the police.
The escape was in connivance with some big men in Anambra Stat top government officials and we are calling on governor Soludo to look inwards and weed his government of such people.
We are calling for his immediate retirement and that he should be brought to Anambra State to account for the havoc he wrecked in the security architecture of the state.
The activist said the new CP, Orutugu, should be given the necessary cooperation to tackle crime in the state.
We just have a new CP and we need to give him chance to do his work. We will continue to monitor him and know when to come in.
We are asking for the total overhaul of police in Anambra State. A policeman who has stayed in Anambra for more than 30 years, what is he doing here?. It is a situation like that that causes compromise in the Police Force," he said.
