EFCC arrests former Governor Chris Ngige

Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Ngige's media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, in a brief statement said: “Ngige is with the EFCC. Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”

It was not clear why the anti graft body picked up the former Minister, but a source said it might be politically motivated.

The EFCC is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Recall that as a sitting governor in 2003, Ngige was abducted for allegedly not dancing to the tune of his political godfathers.

And only recently, his convoy was attacked by gunmen in Anambra State, although the former governor was not in the convoy at the time.
