Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has announced a significant policy change aimed at easing the financial burden on motorists in the state, with a directive that traffic offenders should not be charged more than N10,000.

Before now, traffic offenders were forced by the enforcers to pay as much as N50,000, a situation the governor has frowned at.

"Starting from October 14, 2025, the maximum fine payable for any traffic offense in the state will be capped at ₦10,000, regardless of the nature of the offence", the governor said.

Governor Soludo, who stated this during a mega rally at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium Onitsha, by transport stakeholders to endorse his second term re-election bid, said the decision is part of his administration's broader commitment to foster a more inclusive and fair governance model that considers the economic realities faced by citizens.

“The policy is designed to alleviate the economic strain on our people, particularly at a time when many are grappling with rising costs,” Soludo stated.

He also emphasized the importance of balancing law enforcement with compassion for the everyday challenges faced by drivers and citizens alike.

"We are partners in progress. We will set a special task force and enforcement against illegal tax collectors. Anybody that collects cash should remit it to government coffers", he stated, promising that the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, will work to designate proper bus stops with proper markings.

He described transportation as pivotal to the economy of the state. "While you contribute the best, you are also part of the greatest beneficiaries of this administration.

"From the available records, the kilometer of roads we have done and repaired, no government comes close in less than four years. It is for you and we assure you that development of Anambra under my administration is just beginning", he added.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike stated that they have the numbers in the sector because they are in every home, and praised the Governor for being in alignment with maritime, aviation, road transportation and blue economy.

Also speaking, the Managing Director, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Mr. Celestine Anere, Managing Director of ARTMA, Mr. Emeka Okonkwo, Managing Director of Transport Company of Anambra State, Mr. Chike Obiakor, among others, enumerated the advancements made possible by the Soludo administration, including elimination of touting, digitisation of tax payment, among others.

They described themselves as Governor Soludo's foot soldiers, that will ensure his victory come November 8 gubernatorial election.
