The Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists plying the Awka/Onitsha expressway, declaring that one-way driving on the route is now an offense.

Motorists have been using either side of the road up to Ukpo junction where only one side of the expressway has been completed.

But in a public notice contained in the ARTMA Diary, drivers are henceforth prohibited from using the Awka-bound lane when driving from Amawbia flyover to Onitsha.

The notice, which aims to reduce the increasing number of accidents on the road, particularly during the festive season, advised drivers to strictly adhere to their designated lane.

The agency also cautioned commercial drivers heading to Onitsha to use the Okeb Bus Terminal, located on the Onitsha-bound lane, and continue on this lane towards Onitsha.

The statement added that to ensure compliance, road signs have been installed along the route to guide and caution drivers against the offense.

"Motorists are advised to take note of this new directive to avoid penalties and ensure safe passage on the Awka/Onitsha expressway.

As the festive season approaches, ARTMA is committed to ensuring the safety of all road users in Anambra State," the statement said.
