The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, for the November 8 Anambra election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has provided succour to the survivors of the recent mass murder at Ogboji, Orumba South local government area of Anambra State in which no fewer than eleven people were killed and provided succour to them.
The APC flag bearer, who visited those that were hospitalized after the incident, lamented the apparent security situation in the state.
He donated bags of rice, tins of vegetable oil and cash to the families of the victims to assist them to take care of their families.
Speaking on behalf of Ikukuoma Foundation, Hon Tony Ezekwelu, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, said Ukachukwu was deeply shocked and pained about the inhumanity some people caused their fellow humans.
He said that their principal consoled with them and described as despicable the aftermath of an evil decision that had decimated families and left in its trail widows and orphans.
He urged them to take heart while remembering that there is never a thing that escapes God’s knowledge before it happens.
He called on the people to be vigilant, while urging the state Commissioner of Police to get to the root of the matter.
“We are worried that this happened. We are not known for this kind of thing and I wonder how people can pack guns in their vehicles and drive past many police check points on the road to this place without being dictated”, he said.
He commended Ogboji people for their concern and hospitality and being their brothers’ keepers during the trying times, even as he extended the condolences of Prince Ukachukwu to the government and people of Ebonyi State over the tragedy.
Ezekwelu said he was pleased that Ebonyi State governor intervened early enough by seeking the cooperation of Anambra State government and security agencies in the state who ensured that the matter did not escalate. .
Also speaking, another member of the team, Dr. Arinze Awogu said that Ukachukwu was moved to tears when he heard about the incident, hence his decision to send emissaries to the hospital to see the wounded people.
“Our principal was pained that in a state like Anambra kidnappings and killings have become the order of the day such that people having a lawful meeting were mowed down gruesomely.
“We all know that if there had been proactive security measures on ground, this wouldn’t have happened even if it was perpetuated on Anambra soil by fellow Ebonyi citizens”, he said.
