Anambra EXCO releases N777m for strategic projects,

The Anambra State executive council has approved the release of over N777 million for some strategic projects across the state.


Among the projects are N164.4 million as cost overrun on the construction of an IAAF standard 5-lane spray system track and natural grass pitch in Ekwulobia Stadium Complex in Aguata local government area, N72.7 million for road marking and installation of thermoplastic speed bumps along the 10.043 km newly constructed Afor Nkpor-Eke Obosi Road in Idemili North local government area.


N122 million for the supply and installation of 10 formatted 40 ft containers in multiple locations across the state as a temporary accommodation for security personnel.


Other projects approved are N172.2 million for the building an asphalt surface on the internal dual carriage driveway at the International Convention Center, ICC, Awka, N176 million for the building an asphalt surface on the service lane to the State House of Assembly and the state High Court Complex, Awka.


N72.6 million for road-marking and installation of thermoplastic speed bumps along the 10 km newly constructed Afor Nkpor-Eke Obosi road.

The Council also evaluated and welcomed the sentence of the Anambra native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, known as Akwa Ọkụkụ Tiwara Akị, and the destruction of his shrine and Oke Ite pots as part of the fight for what it described as the state's moral and social rebirth.


According to the state Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, the Council saw the fight as a significant step toward to re-establish Anambra's social and moral order, reiterating that the Igbo philosophy of hard work is the foundation of the state’s efforts at social and moral rebirth.


Meanwhile , the state EXCO has approved three primary events for the swearing-in of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim for their second term on March 17, 2026.


The three events, for which several subcommittees have been set up, are an interdenominational service on Sunday, March 15; a swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, March 17; and a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 22.
