The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has honoured 13 officers of the command who lost their lives in the line of duty, with N13 million cheques from the welfare scheme of the Inspector General of Police, IGP.

At an emotional and solemn ceremony in Awka, the CP said the Group Life Assurance was an initiative of the IGP to support the grieving families.

Among the beneficiaries was an Inspector mistakenly gunned down recently at a checkpoint along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway.
According to CP Orutugu, the scheme was designed to provide critical support to families of personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for national security, adding that “It is our way of ensuring that their deaths were not in vain and their families not forgotten".
Urging the beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely in ventures that can support their dependents, the CP added that “This is not just a payout, but a seed of hope and you must make it count."
He also used the opportunity to review security situation across Anambra State with the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and charted new strategies to combat emerging threats.
Orutugu added: "I reassure Ndi Anambra of the Force’s unrelenting resolve to maintain peace and security: We will not rest until our streets are safe and our people sleep with both eyes closed.”
