A governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, for the November 2025 Anambra election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has described as a diversionary propaganda the much publicized All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, zoning arrangement for the governorship in the state.

Speaking at Umueri, Anambra East local government area, Chukwuma argued that the people of the state have no agreement on zoning or rotation of power for the governorship seat.

According to him, the zoning propaganda is being championed by APGA to deceive the people and maintain its hold on power in Anambra State.

Chukwuma said: "The zoning pattern currently operating in the state is entirely an APGA arrangement, created to perpetuate their rule since 2006.

I am contesting because I know the value an APC government will bring to Anambra. I don't think it will be fair for anyone to say, yes, we know you have been doing so much for the state and you are the best qualified, given where you are now and the understanding of the issues at stake, but we won't give you the mandate because you come from one senatorial zone called Anambra North.

The question is, where was the decision on zoning taken? There was nowhere Anambra people sat down and agreed that they were doing zoning.

Iam aware that APGA, in their own system, had something they call zoning and they have rotated their flag bearers. We are in partisan politics and what it means is that we start from our party and come to the state level.

We don't have zoning in APC as regards Anambra governorship position. By the time I am sworn in as governor in March 2026, by the grace of God, we may decide to take any decision which may be different from that of APGA.

As a governor, I will convoke a referendum of Anambra people to decide what to do. You cannot decide for your party and force other political parties to adopt it.

The present zoning is APGA internal arrangement. It suits the party to continue to fan the narrative of zoning, but it doesn't suit us in APC.

Anambra South, which has the governor presently experiences the worst insecurity in the state and some people are busy talking about zoning. We should do away with this primordial sentimental politics and concern ourselves with how to clean up Anambra and return it to the glory it desperately desires to enjoy."

Chukwuma recalled that even with APGA's zoning arrangement, aspirants of the party from other zones have always participated in its primaries.
