As the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Anambra State commences registration and validation of voters , the Association of Non Indigenes in Anambra State, ANIAS, has warned members not to fall prey to overtures of desperate politicians buying voter's cards.
The body also urged their members who do not have permanent voter's cards to endeavor to obtain the cards ahead of the November 8th gubernatorial election in the area.
President of the association, Prince Chigozie Nweke, in a statement in Awka said there were reports that some desperate politicians have been going about approaching illegible voters with mouth -watering financial offers for them to hand over their voter's cards to them
"We also have it on good record that since the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for the registration of voters and validation of voters, some people have commenced sharp practices in the name of support groups for some governorship candidates, thereby cloning voter's cards bought from unsuspecting electorate in the state.
To this end, we warn our members not to fall prey to theses political fraudster who are working for some gubernatorial candidates ahead of this election.
We also urge our members to avail themselves the opportunity provided by INEC to go for permanent voter's cards on time in order not to be caught napping before the election," he said.
Nweke said that the association has commenced sensitization of members on the need to perform their civic responsibilities as Nigerians, adding that it has opened up talks with INEC for a special voter education for members across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State.
"As Nigerians, it is our civic responsibility to be part of the electoral process and we have been talking to our members about that. We shall be partnering with INEC in the area of voter education before the November 8th gubernatorial election in Anambra State " he said.
