Anambra 2025: INEC forecloses substitution of candidates, publishes final list

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the Anambra State governorship election slated for November 8.


A statement issued Wednesday by the INEC national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, Sam Olumekun, said a total of 16 political parties uploaded the particulars of their candidates by the deadline of May 12, 2025.


According to him, 16 out of the 19 registered parties are participating in the election, out of which the AAC and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) have nominated female candidates while six parties are fielding female running mates.


”With this publication, no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be allowed, except in the event of death of a candidate or running mate before Election Day, as provided by Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act," Olumekun said.


Some of the candidates include Ukachukwu Nicholas – All Progressives Congress (APC); Ifemeludike Chioma Grace – African Action Congress (AAC); Soludo Charles Chukwuma – All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).


Others are Moghalu George Nnadubem – Labour Party (LP); Onyejebu Geoffrey – New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); Ndidi Christy Olieh – National Rescue Movement (NRM); and Ezenwafor Jude – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


Olumekun said in line with the provision of section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, parties are now at liberty to start their electioneering campaigns in public from June 11, 2025, and end at midnight on November 6, 2025
