2 storey building collapses in Awka, casualty figure unknown

A two storey building under construction has collapsed in Awka, the Anambra State capital and casualty figures are still unknown.

The building which is located along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway was awaiting roofing, before its collapse.

Some residents of the area said some artisans who were engaged in construction work in the building may have been trapped in the rubble.

Many volunteers are already at the site, trying to see if there are people who are trapped that can be rescued.

The cause of the collapse has however not been ascertained, as state government officials from the material testing department of mmnistry of Housing were still arriving.
