In honour of their late father, two indegenes of Anambra State, Julius Ezeani Asokwu Sea jr, an American - based chartered accountant and his brother, Nexus Uzoma Asokwu Sea, a well known legal practitioner, also based in the USA - have empowered their Ifitedunu community Vigilante outfit in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra State with over N10 million, and six motorcycles to fight insecurity and other programmes in the area.

Part of the programme include disbursement of N50,000 to about 50 persons above 70 years, cash gifts to participants at the football tournament in the area, as well as support to farmers and traders.

At the presentation ceremony at Ifitedunu Town Hall, their uncle, Dr Francis Asokwu Sea said the empowerment is in honor of his late brother and father, of the donors, Dr. Julius Asokwu Sea, who was popularly known as Onowu New Jersey during his lifetime. The donors also presented additional N2 million for fueling the motorcycles for some months.

Describing the donation as a heartfelt act of service rooted in legacy, the two brothers said the donation will significantly enhance the town’s local security operations and allow for more effective, real-time responses to emergencies and distress calls.

The motorcycles were received by the President General, Ifitedunu Town Union, Prof Stephen Ufoaroh, on behalf of Ifitedunu community, who added that it is in tandem with his vision of a greater Ifitedunu, where, no matter where the sons and daughters of the community reside in the world, are working together to uplift the community and each other.

The donors said: "This contribution is more than just a gift; it is a tribute, a tribute to our late father, Chief Dr. Julius Asokwu Sea, lovingly known as “Onowu New Jersey,” “Sea World,” and “Akata-Isi-Ebue”, a revered community leader who embodied the values of humility, leadership, empathy, and service to his people.

Though a decade has passed since his transition, his spirit of generosity continues to guide and inspire our unwavering commitment to our hometown and community at large.

This moment is as much our father’s as it is ours. Everything we do for Ifitedunu is rooted in his example—his love for our people, his belief in Ifitedunu’s promise, and his quiet but powerful commitment to protecting and uplifting the community.

The six motorcycles and cash donation will be deployed immediately to help patrol the town’s streets, protect its residents, and deter criminal activity—further strengthening Ifitedunu’s capacity to protect its people.

Our donation to the Ifitedunu Vigilante Security Service is to help ensure effective community policing, as well as prompt, speedy, and real-time response to security emergencies and stress calls within the town."

According to them, "This act of giving arrives at a time when communities across Nigeria are increasingly looking inward for homegrown solutions to security and development challenges. For Julius and Nexus, it is not about headlines—it is about heritage.

This is about giving back to the place that gave us everything,” said Chief Julius. “To the elders who raised us, the children growing up now, and the dream of peace our father always held close.”

“We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our dear aunty, Mrs. Justina Uche Onwubuya, and her family for their generous support of this initiative with a contribution of ₦1,000,000. We are also especially grateful to our aunty, Winifred Emenaka, who kindly donated ₦500,000. Their support deeply moved us, and we were truly overwhelmed by such generosity and solidarity.”

These contributions were combined with the ₦500,000 provided by the Sea brothers themselves, bringing the total fund for fueling and maintenance of the motorcycles to ₦2,000,000.

“We also extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who took the time to attend the presentation ceremony,” said Chief Julius and Chief Nexus Sea. “We are especially thankful to Rev. Father Victor Igwegbe, the various Village Chairmen, and all other community leaders and dignitaries who honored the occasion with their presence.

"A heartfelt thank you goes to our Umuanugo Village Chairman, Ambassador Ike Onyegbu, whose coordination and leadership were instrumental in organizing this meaningful event. May God Almighty continue to bless everyone who contributed in one way or another to the success of this initiative.”

Following their contributions to the development of their community, both brothers were recently recognized and honoured by their hometown with chieftaincy titles conferred on them by HRH Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno, Ezedunu of Ifitedunu, that reflect not only their personal and professional accomplishments, but also their continued service to the people of Ifitedunu.

While Julius Ezeani Sea, a financial technology strategist and co-founder of Silicon Africa, was conferred the prestigious title of Ajie Ifitedunu, his brother, Nexus Uzoma Sea, a partner at the elite law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP, was named Onwa N’etili Ora Ifitedunu.

Nexus is also the founder of 'Naija We Can' —a U.S.-based political nonprofit mobilizing the Nigerian diaspora to support democratic reform, civic engagement, and good governance in Nigeria.
