- Tinubu's palliative a grand deceit - S/East Youth Leaders
By Madu Obi The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders(COSEYL) has rejected President Bola Tinubu's palliatives to cushion the effects of the removal of petrol subsidy, describing it as a grand deceit. President General of the group, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, in a statement, said the palliatives were not enough to justify the current fuel pump price of N630 per liter. According to the leader of the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South -East geopolitical zone, the palliatives were intended to deceive gullible Nigerians into accepting the fraudulent current fuel price. His statement read: "Nigerians have spoken in clear and loud terms that we want a reversal to N165 per litre for petrol and forget about this Greek gift of sharing palliatives to few APC party members in a bid to deceive Nigerians into believing that he cares when in actual sense, he wants all Nigerians dead through hardship and hunger. "The unilateral increment of fuel price and other petroleum products aim at making life difficult for Nigerians is a confirmation that President Tinubu has no regard for the lives of Nigerians." "He sees Nigerians as his prisoners who have no choice but must accept anything he wants or desires to do which is not in tandem with democratic tenets." "President Tinubu on assumption of office increased the price of fuel from N165 to N530 and from N530 to N630, over 10 million Nigerians have died as a result of hardship." "Armed robbery attacks have increased by 70 percent as some youths who cannot find a means of survival have resorted to armed robbery where in most cases kill their victims in a bid to disposes them of their money and valuables." "In Owerri, the Imo state capital, just within on week, armed robbers shot dead a retired police officer with his wife who runs a Point Of Sale (POS) business." "A UK based 30 years old young man was also shot dead by armed robbers robbing a POS operator. The list of those killed in Nigeria as a result of the hardship brought upon Nigerians by new fuel price is endless." "It is disheartening that in a supposed democracy where power belongs to the people, the people are not allowed to breathe. The President and his team laugh at Nigerians as what we saw play out on the floor of the Senate where the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other senators laughed at Nigerians when a bill demanding that Nigerians should be allowed to breathe was read on the floor of the Senate. "We are no longer running a democratic government in Nigeria but a kakistocracy government that has no respect for the rights of Nigeria citizens. Too sad! "We demand that President Tinubu should reverse the fuel price to N165 per litre so that industries and companies that have closed shops as a result of the fuel increment can go back to work." "The rate of unemployment is alarming and only reversal of fuel price to N165 per litre will save Nigerians from the present high rate of unemployment and hardship."
- Peter Obi's popularity is because of his performance as APGA governor - Ezeokenwa
By Madu Obi Awka -The national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Mr. Sly Ezeokenwa has said that the popularity of Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the last election, is because of his performance as an APGA governor. Addressing journalists in Awka, Ezeokenwa said it is wrong to give Labour Party the glory in Peter Obi who, through APGA manifesto and ideology, came to the limelight by his sterling performance as the governor of Anambra State. “Labour Party cannot take the glory of APGA. If Labour Party wants to take any glory, it should talk about the former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko and not Peter Obi who was a member of APGA because all those achievements he recorded were when he was in our party", Ezeokenwa said. He said that efforts were being made to ensure that Peter Obi, who was the first governor produced by the party, as well as APGA pioneer national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie, rejoin the party because that is where they rightly belong. He added: “Peter Obi attended the APGA Institute of Good Governance of which I am a student now and I tell you he will return to the party. "I am also in touch with the founding National Chairman of APGA, Chief Chekwas Okorie. I am going to visit Chief Chekwas Okorie and I have spoken with him to come back to APGA because it is his home and a house he built from the foundation. “He is like a father and he started this APGA and I told him that he cannot finish building a house and abandon it. Whatever might have been his reasons for leaving us, he will return to APGA and together we shall rebuild the party and win more states" He said the leadership of the party under his watch will build a political party propelled by young people that cut across all strata of the society. Ezeokenwa said APGA must leverage on the experience of old people, adding that it is not something anyone can shy away from. According to him, one problem APGA found out is that there has been consistent neglect and sidelining of young people in the affairs of Nigeria, despite the fact that every leader claims he is concerned abou the future generation. He said further: "Part of the reason APGA wants to leverage on the Obedient Movement is for what that movement symbolizes. It is not as if we want to be part of the movement, but for the first time, we saw an active interest in the affairs of Nigeria by young people. It was unprecedented. "There are certain key components of that movement that we are studying and the first was that for the first time, we saw people fueling their vehicles to campaign for somebody they don’t know because they felt that person could offer something. It was a belief fueled by conviction, which was why people channeled their energies into the project. "It was something that had never happened in the annals of our history and that is why APGA is interested in finding out what fueled it. "If APGA is able to galvanize the young people to support the party, we will get this country right. We are already having discussions with those that are in the forefront of that movement. "Many of the people in that movement have clearly stated that they are not members of LP because they merely identified someone they believed in. "For us is APGA, politics is a matter of strategy. First we must play politics of survival and then expand and consolidate."

Sly Ezeokenwa has commended the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on the comprehensive palliative measures he rolled out for the people and residents of the state. The ambitious plan to build and modernize primary health centres across all 326 wards is a testament to his dedication in providing accessible and high-quality healthcare services to our communities. "Furthermore, the government's commitment to infrastructure development is evident through the construction of over 340km of roads across all 21 local governments. These road projects will improve connectivity, enhance transportation efficiency, and boost economic growth for the benefit of all citizens". The APGA boss also described as a remarkable move, the decision of the governor to extend free transportation to civil servants through the Federal Government's assisted CNG transportation initiative. "This step ensures ease of movement for our dedicated public servants, allowing them to fulfill their duties efficiently". "Very importantly, the provision of free antenatal services and delivery services to pregnant mothers in state primary health centers and general hospitals is a significant milestone towards ensuring the health and well-being of both mothers and children in our dear state," Ezeokenwa added.

- Another child adoption syndicate exposed after extorting N3m from agent in Anambra
By Madu Obi Another child adoption syndicate has been uncovered in Anambra State after extorting N3 million from a nurse on the pretext that she would be given twins. This came barely few days after a child racketeering facility, the Arrows of God Orphanage at Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi local government area of the state, was exposed. The nurse was fronting for a yet to be identified person who apparently brought the money. The person at the head of the syndicate is a beer parlour operator at Nnobi in Idemili South local government area of the state, who recently opened a chemist shop after collecting the N3 million from the nurse. She is also claiming to be a nurse because she recently opened the chemist shop which she used part of the N3m she collected to fund. The deal was, however, exposed following the failure of the beer parlour operator, who is a mother of three, to deliver the twins as promised. The matter is already before the Chief Magistrate Court in Nnobi and the personalities involved have started telling the court their level of involvement in the matter. A male member of the syndicate, who is a civil servant, claimed that he got involved because a colleague in his office asked him to assist her to adopt a baby. Although he was the complainant in the suit, which is between the Commissioner of Police and the beer parlour operator, he claimed not to be aware that it was an offence. "The child to be adopted is not for me, but for a woman residing in Onitsha. I do not even know her. I only connected the nurse to the beer palour lady, thinking she was genuine. "It is the nurse that paid the N3m and was assured that the twins will be brought to her brought to her on February 12, 2023. When the lady could not bring the babies, we started looking for her," he told the court. It was also gathered that the person in Onitsha is not even the person adopting the twins, as she too was acting for someone outside the state. The police has already charged the beer parlour woman of fraud under Sec 1, Sub Sec (1) (a) of Advanced Free Fraud and other related offences, 2006. The offence carries maximum 20 years jail term and a minimum of seven years. The Police prosecutor handling the case said that after collecting the N3m, the beer parlour operator kept deceiving the nurse that the babies would be brought to her later and up till August 18, 2023, the babies had not been delivered. "The complainant, on the faithful day went to meet her along Ojoto road where she earlier directed her. On getting there she gave her a girl of about six years old. The complainant refused to take the baby on the ground that it was not what they agreed on," the police prosecutor said. According to the police, the girl she gave her had passed the age of adoption, adding that upon that reason, the complainant went to Nnobi Police Station and reported the matter. When asked if she has patent medicine licence, the beer parlour operator said the process for her to become a member has begun, adding that she had already committed some money to the chairman of the association. While pleading for leniency, the woman said she has already started refunding the N3 million, adding that she had paid N300,000 The presiding Chief Magistrate, Ken Nwoye lamented that there is so much child trafficking under the guise of adoption everywhere. He said: "Orphanages have become fertile grounds for child trafficking and some of the homes have teenage girls they pay to become pregnant and sell the baby when it is born. "These motherless babies homes are also centres of child trafficking as they sell babies and children to the highest bidder. Anybody who stays at home and pays and a baby is brought to her is a child trafficker. "Any person who wants to adopt a baby should go through the legal process, which is the Ministry of Social Welfare.Doing illegal adoption is stealing and kidnapping. Those who want to adopt babies should not be desperate about it. Consult a lawyer who should guide you because he will follow the legal process." "From what is happening, many people are benefitting from this deal". The magistrate said both the fake nurse who is a mother of three and the genuine nurse who is apparently fronting for yet to be identified person, would be charged to court for child trafficking.
- Soludo presents certificates to 4 new traditional rulers
By Madu Obi Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has presented certificates of recognition to four newly elected traditional rulers in the state. The new Monarchs are Igwe Alexander E. Azike of Igboukwu, Igwe Ikechukwu Ezeof of of Umuona, Igwe Barr. Mkpuorah Ngini of Isuaniocha and Eze Augustine Nwangwu of Ajali. Presenting the certificates to them at the State Executive Council chambers, Government House, Awka, Governor Soludo congratulated them for being elected by their people and for having gone through the necessary processes in accordance with the constitution, customs, and traditions of their respective communities. The governor said: "Under that same law of Anambra State, if any other person addresses himself as a traditional ruler or forces anybody to address him as such, the person is guilty of an offense punishable with a minimum of six months imprisonment. If any such happens, we will grab the person and put him behind bars. "The town union constitution provides processes for the election of Traditional Rulers and most traditional rulers are products of this constitution." "We are discussing on how to evolve from a town union government to a community government. This is because in a few communities, their Traditional Rulers emerge through a process other than through the constitution of the town union." "We are trying to solve this by creating a distinct, separate institution of the traditional rulers that coexists with the community governance structure without stepping on the others' toes." Soludo observed that most communities in the state had caretaker committees, stating that he understood the politics behind appointing associates, but argued that it is best for the people to decide. According to him, the state government had conducted proper town union elections in 110 communities, adding that the character of his government has no intention to impose anybody, as it has to be the will of the people. "The state government will only come in when it becomes a situation which the people are unable to resolve", he added. The governor advised the new traditional rulers to be fathers to all in their domains, emphasizing his expectation of peace, fairness, justice and love in their various communities. The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Affairs, Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne said the government was able to resolve the issues prevalent in the four communities in line with the governor's directive, stating that they passed through the processes including the community, town union and state levels, as well as security clearance. The Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe has already admitted them into the council.
- Palliatives: APC youths vow to monitor distribution in Anambra
By Madu Obi The Anambra State chapter of the South East APC Young Progressives Forum has vowed that its members would monitor every aspect of the distribution of the federal government's palliatives meant for the state very closely to ensure that they reached the targeted population. National coordinator of the group, Comrade Paschal Candle, at a news conference in Awka, said they would also follow the processes leading to the creation of a social register for vulnerable people in Anambra State to ensure its credibility. According to the group, a situation where only members of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, or cronies of the state government would populate the social register, would be resisted. Candle said: "Any sharp practices we notice in the course of these activities will be taken up and escalated to the highest level possible for appropriate actions. "The N5 billion for each state provided by the federal government must be used to purchase the items that were agreed upon by the National Economic Council, NEC, in their meeting. "We insist that the government of Anambra State must not divert a single kobo to other ventures, no matter how good it may be. The N5 billion is meant to be used for immediate food palliatives and must be used for such. "We are all aware from the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, that the federal government had already released five trucks of rice to all states and that the N5 billion was approved by Mr. President for disbursement to the states to enable each of them to procure additional 100,000 bags of rice, 40,000 bags of maize and fertiliser to be distributed to the most vulnerable across their various states. "We cannot fathom the reason why Governor Soludo is finding it difficult to announce the arrival of the federal government palliatives to the state and also why it has been pretty difficult to distribute same or constitute a committee that will take charge of the distribution. "Is Governor Soludo waiting for the people of the state to die of hunger before he deems it fit to make the palliatives available to serve its purpose at the right time? "We are therefore calling on the governor, who was present at the NEC meeting and at the press briefing thereafter to, as a matter of urgency, inform the people of Anambra State about the status of the five trucks of rice that were released by the federal government to Anambra State for distribution to vulnerable households. This is for the sake of transparency and accountability. "All genuine stakeholders in the Anambra State project should plead with the governor to release the rice palliatives sent to the state by the federal government for these items to get to the needy on time as the purpose for sending it down is not to be locked up in a hidden warehouse in the state, as they did during Covid-19 era. "The diversion of the rice palliatives by the state government as it is being touted by some concerned discerning minds in the state, would have a debilitating effect on the image of the reigning state government. "Again, if the news spreading like a wild fire across the state that Governor Soludo is trying to play a fast one on the palliatives from Abuja by sharing it to APGA members or supporters of APGA or to allow only APGA members to be in charge as they did during Governor Obiano era, we shall resist it by all legal means. "We have credible information that the state government is planning to write 'SOLUTION IS HERE' on those palliatives. This game plan will fail because they are trying to deceive the people into believing that he is the one providing those palliatives, when in actual fact,it is President Bola Tinubu and APC programme." Candle also demanded that an accurate social register must be created for the disbursement of the $800 million World Bank loan cash transfer to the most vulnerable in the society. "Governor Soludo should set up another implementation committee that will be representative of all important stakeholders, such as traditional rulers, political parties' representatives, the three major religious denominations in the state, as well as the World Bank representatives, who will work hand in hand with the team from Abuja in order to provide a transparent register", he said.
